Once you get into TOCA Race Driver 2 the first place you're gonna stop is the Career mode. And it's a great place to start this massive game. The story driven career puts you in the position of a young race driver trying to make his mark. You'll be taking part in your choice of races where in each round you'll be given certain tasks like winning over 70 000 in one group of races to finance your team, getting podium finishes to impress sponsors, or finishing in front of specific AI controlled drivers, all of this over loads of different categories of race in almost every type of 4 wheeled thing with a motor in it (or 10 wheeled in the case of the super-trucks). You'll be a jack of all races; racing in the open wheels grand prix, ice racing, via the Super-Truck racing and classics competition.
If the career of a young driver isn't your thing then there are the single races that are open to you with all the types from the career section. All the cars in these races have been meticulously modelled and they even look good when damaged (though too much damage obviously isn't a good thing). The tracks haven't escaped this amazing attention to detail either as every crack on the asphalt, every little dip in the track, everything in fact down to the flag of the country you're racing in has been so well done that it almost makes you want to stop your car and look.
The cars feel perfect in TOCA RD 2, it's the only words that we've found to describe it. The sound of the engine. That feeling when you know that you should have slowed down that little bit more when you feel the brakes lock-up. It's perfect, there's nothing else to it.
All of this is great but online is where this game shines like nothing else on earth. With damage on TOCA can be a bit frustrating as you slow down perfectly for that fist corner before it all goes pear-shaped as the guy behind you ploughs into the back of you spinning you out over the gravel. But it's all part of the game and adds to the fun.
And I managed to do all that without even giving you all a list of cars.
Alright then. Cars that TOCA RD 2 includes: Audi TT-R, Ford Falcon BA, Jaguar E-type, Jaguar XJ220, Subaru Impreza, Aston Martin DB9.. and well I'm not gonna list all of them, just download the game and see for yourself.
