 Download Speed?
I have tried at different times from early morning 2am 3am so not at peak times and the fastest download speeds I get are 232-300KB/sec on 20meg cable. When I was here as a member last time it was slow at peak times but much better early mornings now the speed is poor for whatever time you try.

 Re: Download Speed?
Explained loads of times means nothing when I can goto Gamers Hell and download at 2.1 megabytes a second when this advertises Fast speeds. when I was here last it was a lot faster.
Looks like another cancellation

 Re: Download Speed?
All Im pointing out is the Virgin speed problem is known, what needs to be done is known, just Virgin refuse to change the network, they run via old telewest lines to metaboli for some reason.

 Re: Download Speed?
Its crazy if this is the case why do Metaboli continue supporting Virgin in giving 2 week trials to Virgin customers and as part of virgins Broadband plus package. If anything it does more damage as I didnt go for the 2 weeks free and went for the £12.95PM But now I will cancel because its just to much of a drag. Thanks for your replys though..

 Re: Download Speed?
Yeah I agree, when it all started I did my own tests to see who was at fault (using VM's software) they were giving ridiculous ping times before the connection even got out of Virgins network, and I mean ridiculous, reminded me of the really old baud connection pings if I would try connecting to America (when your speed would be very lucky to get 1kb). Took the message from virgin 5 seconds to get to metaboli the route back to virgin 0.5 seconds. Virgin changed a little as they went from piggybacking on Tiscali servers when they got into France to a more direct route, it still left 4 second lags in the UK. I gave these results to Metaboli in order that something be done. Metaboli tried to work with them even set up a dedicated server for VM customers. I think even the free 2 weeks is something to try to butter VM up so they would improve their connection to Metaboli (as nowhere else does metaboli offer that). Sometimes its a good connection, most of the time its not, leading me to believe theyve got some really old cobweb ridden server using 56k modems in the route

Your not using BT with the TV service all-in one package are you? I know they use the same line, considered using them at one point until I read on their site that it drops the internet down to a 500k line from 8mb when the TV service is on. A lot of the time it will be the time you are online, 2pm-midnight tends to get slower as more people log on to you ISP, can be worse on the weekends. An idea you might prefer is queue up downloads you want done overnight, so while you sleep the games download. At this time you should also be getting the best speed your ISP can provide.

 Re: Download Speed?
Hi, Virgin Media unfortunately also traffic manage. It could be part of the problem, even at that time at night, especially if you hit the limit at the wrong time . Even though they do use old lines and stuff, it may be worth phoning them up, as I've heard of cases where people have been STM'd permanently by accident/bug in the system. ..In all likelihood though, it's probably them just being rubbish .
