The problem isnt with metaboli. I am with virgin 20 meg line. I have spent alot of time looking at this issue. But I give up as virgin is the core problem. So my advice is leave the download over night or just wait afew hours for things to download. It not worth the stress trying to sort slow downloads.

I am assuming Metaboli is based in Europe and i am guessing Paris. Now everyone seems to blame Virgin for the slow download speeds, but i think this is wrong. It 1.45 am here in the UK and i am now downloading a game on my Virgin 20MB broadband. The download speed is 125KB/sec. This is 20 times slower than what Metaboli advertise. Here's a speed test i have just done from my house to Paris. It's perfect!!ParisPoor download speeds are, my opinion, down to over populated servers which cannot cope with the demand.

Speed Tests show nothing. For one all ISP's know the speed testers and allow maximum bandwith possible for everything associated with speed tests. Hell I can get double my maximum line speed on speed test :PDo a test tracing the route to http://www.metaboli.co.uk (open command prompt and type in: tracert http://www.metaboli.co.uk) you will find the servers before leaving the Virgin network just are extremelly slow towards metaboli and after that they leave virgin they drop considerably. Lanky's post somehow was cutting out the node names but he had ones where it was fine and you can see they are VM's network (VM, NTL, Telewest) for the first 9 hops before they let it out to Nerim.I believe its something to do with thier FUP as one VM customer discovered from them is they will cap if they deem a download to be large even if you havent reached your 3 gig limit during peak hours.

What i find funny is Vm's advertising of them using Fibre optic, what many may not know is while they may use fibre optic for the street cables or the exchanges, the actual connection in to the house is bog standard coaxial cable so your not getting the full fibre optic treatment that VM so boldly claim, it's a con don't believe the hype.

Not to mention they still gotta install the Fibre Optics in many areas to replace NTL's obsolete cabling under the street so even the exchanges I doubt are all Fibre Optics.

the argument over coaxial and fibre optic cable is over distance the signal degrades the further away you are from the exchange with coax as virgin is optics all the way to your box on the wall and only coaxial cable is to your pc there is no signal loss as you are only using a few feet of coax and no degrade in signal thats why bt are planning to go optical in the next 10 years so yes optics is faster

the con is adsl cliaming to be able to supply 20 meg if you live more than 2 miles from the exchange you will be lucky to get 8 mb. light is the fastest thing known to man it will beat electricity all the time its physics 101

As I said they are replacing the NTL coax cable to lay fibre optics they only have done part of the area Im in and are working on the rest, Im sure there are other parts of the UK in the same boat. This is streetwork where they have to dig up the cables to do it. To do that they need permission from the council. This can be a lengthy process, but this is the cabling from the Exchange to the building that is Coax.
