Re: Download speeds
What you are suggesting is not improving, it's expanding. And that's a whole new business. Again, we cater to the UK, and we cater to a few other territories too (metaboli.fr, .de, etc..) but we have to concentrate on a certain territory first, and do it right, before scaling operations up...

So, yeah, in the meantime, I understand some speeds can be disappointing to you, but again, it's actually out of our remit.

Re: Download speeds
Well, I just tried to say that there is a competitions between digital stores and yes, you are not selling games but you should think of your customers abroad and make the service better. thats what I wanted to tell you.

Again, your website gives us big amount of good games, and it worth the money, but you should always think how to improve it. thats all.

Re: Download speeds
It's clearly stated in the Terms and Conditions, it's not as if I was making this up, and we're not categorizing anyone.

Re: Download speeds
So are you telling us that if we are not from UK, we are categorized b-sort users? Am I right?

Re: Download speeds
Hi there,

First off, we are not Steam, we don't do Download to Own here.

Second, Gamesplanet is OUR Download to Own service, so, yes, we do listen to what competitors do, don't worry about that :)

Third, and I already told you that: No, we won't let you choose from diferent servers, as this is a UK only service, so you don't need to choose from different servers.

Steam lets you do that because they cater to the entire world. We, at metaboli.co.uk (aptly named isn't it?), cater to the UK market, for which we have ample capacity and don't need to let users choose between servers.

That being said, as we do listen to what our users have to say, if we ever believe it is crucial for you to be able to choose between servers, we might introduce this feature in the future, but it's not in our plans for now.

Right, because you know so much about how we handle our internet traffic, yes?

If I'm not mistaken, we also a few other users (LazerFX for example) who have 50mb connections, and max it out too...

So no, the fact that we don't have servers in the UK doesn't really change a thing as the internet is built so as to deliver data from different points in the world. There are so many factors that could be taken into account as to why you don't get maximum speed that what you just said can't be taken as the one and only reason.

We don't tell you to put up and shut, we actually ask you to send us a complete report of what you connection does (tracert is great) and we can then analyse this and get to the facts.

You need to pay attention to other digital stores, like Steam, that offer their users to choose from 20+ content servers, games planet, that gives ALWAYS maxed download speed, etc.

Your service is good for the price, yes, but it doesnt help us if we download most of the games with 100 kb/s speed and it takes us day to download a game. so, are we paying to play 31 games a month or are we paying for 200+ games?

By the way, your downloader FREEZES most of the times, and the queue does NOT work.
For example, if I queue 5 games in metaboli before I go to sleep or work, after I return, only 1 game downloads.
When I queue games in my steam account, everything downloads without any problems.
When I queue a game in Download manager that I bought from games planet, everything downloads without any problems.

Re: Download speeds
11pm is not outside peak times..

Heres an average day

9am - 2pm: Work and schools tend to use some bandwith not a great deal but you also get delays due to line maintenance. Usually this period is fine.

2pm - 5pm: Schools out and gaming servers start slowing down, I used to time when it was 2:30pm by when things started going horrible in Battlefied 2142 glitches and lag etc.

5pm - 10pm: Workers come home adding to the schoolies this is the worst period hence peak hours.

10pm - 1am: late night gamers, this reverts back to the same speeds as when school gets out. While the gamers arent causing much lag the leeches are, this is when most downloads are queued for overnight downloading.

1am - 9am: Generally the best time as the less hardcore downloaders are done, still you got the p2p leeches going on but thats about it, also because of the quite period here ISP's tend not to bother throttling anyone, so while you may have been traffic shaped before this period isnt so restrictive on speed limits. That said most ISP's also use this time to do maintenance, so more likely for connection to be lost.

That said I have to agree sometimes downloading 1 game I can get 100k switch to another and get 800k, know they are differnt servers on metaboli but can be hard to pinpoint why ones slower than another.

Re: Download speeds
Well I'm going to wait till about 11pm and download a game to compare with peak hours as I downloaded a game at around 4pm ish and I was only downloading at 270k/s on average

Re: Download speeds
True, I have 50Mbit conns... get 3-4Mbyte/sec download, which is around 30-40Mbit speeds. I do notice that different games do download at different rates though. Wasn't that fussed - I usually kick off a download either late in the evening / overnight, or early in the day, get other stuff done then come back to it when it's finished. That said, I've seen some games sticking at around 5 - 7Mbit / 600Kbyte-1Mbyte...

Re: Download speeds
Last time I contacted support they copy and pasted from a thread I had taken part in from the forums which wasn't any help to anyone at the time.

I guess I wont win on this one about speeds so I'll just carry on as normal but here is a copy of my tracert.
