Post What's wrong with Metaboli ? ? ? ?
EVERY day it seems either the site simply freezes, games will not download, games will not load, download speed drops to nil then stops, comp freezes or something else...

Needless to say i will not be continuing my subscription after whats only to be described as a very disappointing attempt to play games

Hi

I don't get this issue myself.Games for me pretty much download at the max speed for my connection.

Who is your isp and are you based in the UK? I ask this because this version of metaboli is set up and optimised for the UK.

There can be all sorts of things that affect your download speeds.

You can download one game while playing another which saves you having to wait for downloads. To do this launch the game you want to play. Then press alt/tab to minimize the game and go back to the desktop. Then goto metaboli and start the game that you want downloading and maximise the launched game.

Have a look at the following threads to see what can cause download speed issues.By all means after checking them run a trace route which is explained in one of them and post the results here.It might help shed some light in why you are getting slow speeds at times.Run it when your speeds have dropped.

I'm getting exactly the same. I've had it on Assassins Creed Brotherhood. In my case the download speed is around 2.77 Mb/sec until it reaches the bar when you can then play the game while the rest continues to download. At that point the speed fades away to stablise at around 0.4 - 0.5 MB/sec.

The advice on these forums has always been that the you don't do this. You should wait for the full download to complete before playing the games.

I find it hard to believe that an ISP would throttle a connection when it reaches this pivotal point. Far more likely that Metaboli are imposing a restriction.

Is anyone else seeing a similar issue. Maybe it's just me. I've had a particularly wonky week this week!

Hi

If metaboli were imposing a restriction it would affect ALL customers and it does not affect me.I pretty much max my speed with meta.

Are you based in the UK and who is your isp?

Some isp's restrict speeds if you download over a set amount in one go.

When you see a slow speed try running a traceroute to the meta servers to see if there is some kind of network issue affecting your speed.Instructions on how to do so are contained in the links i provided for the original poster.

It could be a routing issue. It could also be a problem with a node along the metwork that becomes saturated and can't handle the load it is under. There can be all sorts that can cause this issue. The connection ratio that your isp uses. The amount of people on the network, spyware, viruses, settings and much much more.

Running the trace routes should give us an indication if it is an issue with metaboli or if the issue lies else where.Instructions on how to run a trace route are contained in the links i provided to original poster.

Speeds can also vary from isp to isp.

To give you an example of this when i first joined the service around 5-6 years ago i was using aol as an isp. With them i regulary hit download speeds of around 1800kbps.They then implemented a fair usage policy without informing me and tried to troulbe shoot a slow speed issue for 3 weeks before they informed me it was due to a speed restriction.

I therefore changed isp's and went to BT.While with BT my download speeds never went above 800 kbps. When speaking to them regarding the loss in speed they told me it had to be my pc.In fact they insisted it was.Due to this i reinstalled a fresh copy of windows which changed nothing. They refused point blank to do anything constructive regarding the issue. When running trace routes to the meta servers BT used to send me along a route that was nearly double what aol used to send me along.Several nodes along the route BT used to send me gave me horrid response times but according to Bt there was never a network issue.

18 months later i changed again to sky bband and my speeds went back to what they were with aol.I had changed no settings or hardware for the speeds to change like that.Despite me telling BT on numerous occasions that it was not my hardware as the cause they ignored me and told me i was to blame. It is obvious i was not to blame after i left them and my speeds returned to normal. When running trace routes with sky to meta i was back to where they should have been.

Some internet service providers will not admit they are wrong even when they are.
