 Banner ads
I'm very disappointed to see the AdChoice banner. It's ok to show that kind of ads - but not after logging on to a site that I pay for. Especially not when the ads are adapted to my profile. I don't want any third party to gain access to my profile without my permission.
Is there a way to change my profile to avoid this - or do I have to sign off metaboli?

 Re: Banner ads
Ouch, I haven't seen that before.
I have to agree here that banners like that shouldn't hang around the site if we're paying members... plus it doesn't look very nice placed at the top like that.

 Re: Banner ads
I too agree. I don't expect to see banner ads on a site where I'm a paying subscriber. Having them there before I sign in I could see as fair enough, but after logging in they should vanish completely.
I know there's a little arrow that we can use to close them but that's not the point. As paying members we shouldn't be seeing ads.
Can we perhaps get an explanation as to why these have suddenly appeared without prior warning/announcement?

 Re: Banner ads
This is one of those things I'm disappointed to see on a pay-site. Certainly, pre-paywall, this is a normal situation, but disrupting the design of the site (And, more importantly, making the navigation of the site move post-load) is considered a big no-no to adding advertisements. Several times I've gone to click on an option, before the advertising loaded, then the design shifted and I've ended up clicking elsewhere (Including on the advertisement - something I will never, ever do voluntarily; I don't follow advertising at all, and if I see something in an advert that I'm interested in I'll go to the site or look it up manually).
I can understand 'advertising' your sister-site for pay-to-own games, but throwing in random advertisements is a definite no-no in my book.

 Re: Banner ads
I too don't tend to dislike adverts very much and ignore them where ever possible.
I can however see the possible benefits to meta having some advertising on the site.Increased revenue in theory means more games and a better service.
Having been a member here for around 4-5 years now i have never seen an increase in subscription costs(premium pack). When i first joined there were around 300 games as part of the service. In that time the catalogue of games has more than doubled in size
If this helps meta keep prices down and increase the catalogue in a time where we have had vat increases and everything else is getting more expensive i can't say im dead set against the idea.
Sure in a perfect world i would like to see no advertising here but sadly we don't live in a perfect world.I do think they could be a little more in tune with the style of the site and prehapps some prior notice would have been nice.
I don't like the thought of targetted ads.
Personally i wil just treat them like any advertising on any site i use that has advertising.I choose to ignore them,so the impact they have on me as an end user is not massive in the grand scheme of things.

 Re: Banner ads
Whilst I can understand the potential reasons for the advertising, to increase revenue without upping subscription costs, it would have been nice to receive some kind of notification about it. An advance warning would simply have been a courtesy I would expect from a site I pay a subscription to.

 Re: Banner ads
Hello all,
I would like to take some time and explain this whole situation:
First off, this is just a test. We will closely monitor this additional revenue stream opportunity and should it not perform according to our expectations, we will consider options left to us, such as shutting it down.
We should have warned you about this, but I have to say, I myself was taken aback by this and wish to present my apologies for not warning you about this. You know the level of commitment I have to you, and this forum and thus I hope you know I would have said something had I known about this.
I also would like to make it clear that I was not in favour of setting up ads on the site and especially behind the paywall, as one of you mentionned here. I can assure you that all your feedback is taken into account and discussed internally. Thanks again for your understanding and the calm and mature discussion that is taking place here.
Finally, I would like to assuage your fears, the ads are not adapted to your profile, they are taken from a pool of themes selected by Metaboli. Also, as this is a first for Metaboli, I believe that ads will be refined as we gauge the way this works.
Thanks for bearing with us!

 Re: Banner ads
Thanks for the official response Shane, I think that was what most of us wanted really.
It's good to know that commends are taken into account, unlike many other companies which will simply ignore the customer base and adopt a 'like it or lump it' attitude towards customer opinion.
It's also good to know that this is just a test rather than something that's been set in stone. Whilst I'm all for Metaboli gaining additional revenue, I'm somewhat against advertising, especially with it being somewhat intrusive at the top of the page. If the ads are going to be kept, perhaps the banner could be moved to the side where it's not going to move the whole page around?
