Ok there is a 3.1 patch available from egosoft, dont be stupid like me and download it, Metaboli will have to get the update applied server side.

I may be posting a performance tip after I redownload it again, just want to test it before posting it.

Just to let you know, we're aware of that patch and have already requested it so we should have it ready for you soon, I hope!

have to agree there.. I still wish I could get a Logitech Extreme Analog joystick (the digital always lost calibration) best stick I had. Wasnt Force feedback, but unlike many of the current crop there was resistance in the base which made my movements smooth and not feel like Im combatting a floppy stick. Also weighed a ton so wouldnt be picked up easily by sudden evasive manouvres. I used to play Wing Commander on this and never needed a second hand to hold it down.
[Chopped for brevity]

My last joystick was a MS Sidewinder FF2 - it died a few years back and I never could find a reasonable replacement, so didn't bother. Until recently, it hasn't bothered me, except now I want to play more flight sim (mostly space based) games like Rogue Universe, Freespace 2 (FS2O), Evochron, X3, and more... Bring back Elite!

I had a separate throttle to go with it, in order to have a more HOTAS type system; it was cheap generic tat that died before the FF2 did, but now I'm used to that style of system.

When I say X52, I wouldn't touch the basic edition; it feels cheap and nasty. The Pro, on the other hand, is solid. I do prefer Logitech kit, so I've looked at the G940, but after a little research, there are various issues with it (that I believe have been resolved or reduced recently by a new firmware patch) that made me stay away for a bit. I've been used to a twist stick, so the rudder/brakes would be different for me; that said, I have been trained on a real BA flight sim (Tristar, it's a while ago!), so that wouldn't bother me too much. Just where to put them, as they'd have to fight with the pedals from my G25!

The Thrustmaster Cougar seems a little expensive compared to the G940, but it's very, very solid. Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of money, so it's not something I would be prepared to buy.

One stick I haven't seen many people mention is the Saitek X-65F - similar price to the Cougar, but the stick is solid and detect how hard you push on it, rather than moving as you push on it. Seems interesting, but wouldn't that feel weird?

Umm wouldnt bother Shane.. just fired it up to test and found out you got Xtended Mod 1.1 installed on it this which may not work with 3.1. To quote the Xtended mod team "XTC is designed to work on version 3.0 of Terran Conflict. We cannot guarantee it will work on any other version."

So not worth bothering about unless you plan on doing 2 versions the original game and Xtended mod seperately, I would like this as all official content is gone from Xtended since xtended takes place after terran conflict.

PS you need to change the description on the thread and on game page as Xtended is a completely different universe using the TC description isnt right also the manual is wrong you need to supply the Xtended manual located at
http://www.thexuniverse.com/downloads.p ... d&fileid=7
or the one provided in the download the original Terran Conflict one doesnt really apply anymore.

I would highly recommend having both as your losing a lot of content which bridge X3 Reunion -> Terran Conflict -> Xtended Not to mention a "tutorial" style setup in TC, almost thrown into Xtended as an open sandbox game.

TBH also a little suprised you went with a fan made Mod than the original game.

As for the tweak to increase performance, here it is
Get CFF Explorer
Install
Navigate to C:\Metaboli\Games\x3terranconflictuk
right click X3TC and choose Open with CFF Explorer
on the left side of the window select "File Header"
In the main window next to Characteristics it says "click here" do so
Check the box that says "App can handle >2gb"
Close down and save overwriting the original file.

This will give you a significant boost as the game would only use 2gb before doing this, I noticed at least 10fps extra when starting at my multiplex station (which eats quite a bit of resources)

yeah i was surprised when booting up to find it was the xtended mod, not sure why that was sent I wouldn't have thought Metaboli would have requested a fan made mod instead of the origional game, as wildride says you do miss a fair bit and your chucked straight into the deep end as it's more of a sandbox mode which wont help those that haven't played previous X3 games in having no tutorial etc.

Metaboli should keep this version ( if they can) but really need to get the actual Terran realease version as well or maybe remove the mod if it was installed at Metaboli's end by mistake and re-upload.

@wildride thanks for the performence tweak :)

put in a review on the game including the description for Xtended (current one is for Terran Conflict) whether Metaboli change whats on the game page itself or just put up the review is up to them ;)

"X-Tended - Terran Conflict is a complete overhaul of Egosoft's game, X³: Terran Conflict. Featuring completely new ship & weapon balance, numerous gameplay enhancements, streamlined ways to manage your assets, dozens of new weapons, wares, missiles, ships, new missions, a completely new map and a setting that is faithful to the official lore laid out by the books and games, X-Tended - Terran Conflict is easily one of the most extensive modifications ever created for a game of the X-Series."

Hmm, I wasn't aware this was the Xtended Mod.

Apparently, the guys at packaging here got their game versions mixed up and so I've asked them to get the real terran conflict up and not the Xtended Mod... We won't be able to keep both versions though, sorry.
