Fixing Company of Heroes Tales of Valor on 64bit/Windows 7 (and other games)

Get yourself CFF Explorer

Install it then afterwards navigate to the ToV directory C:\Metaboli\Games\cohtov by default
find a file named COH TOV
right click and select open with CFF explorer
You will see this screen:

In the left menu select .NET directory
Then in the main window where it says "click here"

You will be presented with a popup

The 32bit required will be unchecked, check it close the popup and close CFF explorer, you will be prompted to save, do so overwriting the file.

Now go to Metaboli and play your game.

A similar process can be done to get Sam and Max Season 2 to work on the "SamAndMax_SeasonLauncher" exe file, Season 1 is yet to be tested.

Company of Heroes Tales of Valor - DOH TOV.exe
Heroes of Might and Magic IV - HMM4 Gold.exe
Jack Keane - \bin\release\Jack Keane Launcher.exe
Painkiller Overdose: \bin\painkiller.exe
Sam and Max Season 2 - Universal_Launcher.exe
Wheelman - \binaries\Wheelman_Launcher.exe

Thanks Wildride, this will be most helpful for those unfortunate souls who have not been able to play these games. We will of course be looking into incorporating this so as you don't have to go through these fastidious manipulations with future releases.

No problem, just glad to get that resolved, considering how many things I danced around before finding that it was driving me a bit nuts and I was about to give up.. was amazed it was so simple.

You would think that the 32bit required thing would be checking if you were on an x86 machine (at least thats what I thought) and prevent a 64bit from opening. Likely the same thought from whoever wrote that bit of code in that file. But no, seems to just change the files it looks at to load the game going from 64bit drivers to 32bit ones.

As long as it works, and identifying a cause helps for future games :D

Sam and Max Season 2 - Universal_Launcher.exe
Wheelman - /binaries/Wheelman_Launcher.exe
Heroes of Might and Magic IV - HMM4 Gold.exe

Just a update to say Painkiller overdose will run on windows 7 with the 32bit fix just apply the fix to

painkilleroverdose\bin\painkiller.exe

If you downloaded a game this month then it will be C:\metaboli\games or d:\metaboli\games or e:\metaboli\games etc etc wherever you installed metaboli to.

If you downloaded it prior to this month it will be in you local app data directory ie: c:\users\wildride\appdata\local\yummy\games

btw when looking for exe files dont look specifically for the .exe part for example just look for COH TOV

As for the "how and where" part its the same pprocess as the first post in this thread.
