Thanks Terranova, that is much clearer now.
Maybe Metaboli could update the sticky with this sort of explanation, particularly re the two players.

Also, the biggest perk of the Yummy encryption/player system, or so I've found, is that it leaves games fully moddable.
The Exent system basically seals all the game data away in an encrypted black box, and the only thing you can do with it is just run it as packaged. The Yummy encryption system only encrypts the main EXE file, allowing you to do whatever you like with the rest of the game, allowing you to tweak and tune to your hearts content. Download addons, tweaks and other such fan-made goodies.
It's pretty dang nifty.

Hello Snowy.
I see what you are saying and we are indeed going for one unified player, not two different techs. That will enable the service to be more reactive and user-friendly.
That player (Yummy) will be able to run both on 32 and 64-bit OSes. You will be able to launch all the games that stay on the service (and a vast majority stays). We are now definitely aiming for a start of April completion date.
Enjoy your games and time here,
MetaShane

Re: Major update to the service in 2010
Hi MetaShane - now much clearer. I think the root of the confusion is using the term '64 bit' - outside Metaboli this refers to whether the application or OS is 64-bit enabled i.e. AMD/Intel x64 instruction set, 64 bit addressing. This definition ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit ) is only partly related to Metaboli's use of the term. I'm sure you don't want to change your use of this term but it would really help to explain your definition of '64-bit' (i.e. using the new Yummy player, will run 32-bit or 64-bit games on XP, Vista or Windows 7) wherever possible. That would avoid confusion for new users like me who know what 64-bit is, but don't see any explanations of Exent vs. Yummy players on the website, FAQ, signup process, etc.

Re: Major update to the service in 2010
I'm happy it's clearer for you.
Indeed, we won't change it for now, but I'll try and mention it whenever possible.
The thing is, we won't be changing the mention of the players, as we are completing the phasing our of the Exent player right now, so it would not serve a purpose in regard to the time it would take to actually change all the pages where the player is mentioned.
Everything should be better in April.

The new player is already out, it was released on the 14th of this month you should have been notified to update the player when you logged in or tried to download / run a game. As for games you can't use what ones are you reffering to , you should be able to play any that have the green 64bit tag next to them unless your running Windows 7 in which there are a couple of games i have found that don't work Wheelman and Dawn of war Gold there could be more but i haven't tried them all. If a game doesn't have a green tag then it is no longer part of the service either because it couldn't be converted to run with the new player or because the licence for metaboli to host the game is no longer available.

Oh wow. I initially thought you'd just withdraw a few games, but looking over it it seems like you've removed more than half the games in the catalogue.
Not sure this is worth paying for anymore :/

... You still have access to 447 games... I mean, that's huge.
