OK i got the problem that everyone else had with it not fully downloading, My game page stated fully downloaded and was in the play section the farcry folder stated 719MB.

of course it wasn't going to run the game so i rebooted the PC and went back to my game page where i found that the game had moved back to the download section with it stating only 719MB downloaded.

when i pressed the start button to try and continue the download i got a error saying object not found ( not sure what that error is reffering to) and it wouldn't start.. i only got that error once.. upon refreshing the page closing and opening the browser ( firefox) trying with Explorer all i got was a box appearing saying error and a close option that was it no error number or message.. alas all i could do was delete it from My games.

I'm sure the problem lies with .net 3.5, and as wildride suggested for 32bit users at least the removal of it and installing 2.0 or 3.0 should make it work, but as games that use windows live now need .net 3.5 installed i'm not going to remove it just for this game.. hopefully somday a solution can be found.

Terra sorry I didnt comment on this before, but after FC2 went back to needing more downloaded did you go back to the FC2 page and press download from there? I have a torrid time resuming downloads from the my games page, going to the specific page for the game and pressing download often works for me.

Tried multiple downloads myself. Cleaned browser cache on all browsers (manually and with ccleaner). Rebooted. Tried in both FF 3.5.3 and evil IE 8.0.6001.18828 build. Running Vista Premium 32 bits and has absolutely no problems downloading any other game so far. I do have some browser glitches but a quick refresh or a kick in the head of the Metaboli player(s) usually resolves the issue. This is definitively different.

Game is at least Vista 32 compatible, and runs ok but this version seems to have an issue and I assume the player is the culprit.

Void give up, on Vista you have 3.0 built-in, you cant downgrade it any further. You need to lose 3.0 to get the download beyond a certain point.

The only way I got it going on Vista64 was to download it via XP and copy the files across.

FC2 retail runs on Vista though so I still have the mad hope that Metaboli will resolve the download issue(s) someday in the future. That said it might actually run on Windows7 retail so we will see then if not before. Game does not get so good reviews but I still enjoyed FC quite a lot and although FC2 is a step into a totally different setting it would be great to try it at least. Anyhow I will try to download it on the XP box and copy files that should as you say do the magic trick :-).

Tried the .NET downgrade on my XP Home (all patches and whistles installed). FF last version, IE version 7.0. Downgraded to .NET 2.0, installed player, and so forth. Same result. Will try to downgrade to .NET 1.x.

Ok as promised heres the fix for XP (and possibly Vista) 32bit Operating systems, Vista64 I need to work out a solution.. THIS WONT WORK FOR VISTA64!!

Short Way (not tested):
Uninstall ALL .NET Framwork installations via add/remove programs. Start with 3.5 then 3.0 then 2.0. Attempt 1.1 (I wasnt able to) then 1.0
Next go to Microsoft to get the .NET framework redist and install. Then download the game.

Long way (tested):
Download Farcry, this wont completely download the game but some of it. Personally I got 1.2gb worth in this initial download.
Activate game, and then quit, it should be downloading some more now.
That will get to 1.7gb before saying its done, game still wont work.
Remove all .NET Frameworks then resume downloading.. this will get you to 2.2gb.
Now get the .Net Framework
Now resume downloading the game and it should complete.
The game will now work fine.

This still doesnt fix the patching problem though.

Posted it ages ago in the thread, long way is exactly as it occured on my XP partition. Shanes said they are repackaging the game and including the add-on, so hopefully for those of you wanting to play this the game will be getting that sooner rather than later.

Yes the game does work on Vista, Ive had it going on Vista64, in fact before MS released .Net 3.5 the game would download fine on vista64. Ever since then it doesnt work even on a new install of Vista64, which is a real oddity. I will admit the clean re-install was not a complete reformat so it may have still had the altered 3.0 installed (3.5 alters the installed versions of 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 but not 1.0)

I will be getting a new drive on the 20th and will be putting Vista64 on it, Ill test it on a completely clean drive.

Weird stuff anyhow especially since support only response is to install the prereqs which includes .NET 3.5SP1. I´ll have one more go and then I´ll call it the day, and wait for a future repack, or to retry on Windows 7 later this month.

Thanks for the followup anyhow wildride.

I´ll post if of my three current installs and downloads ends up working :-D.

No problem the frustrating thing is I could provide the file needed for download but I dont want to get myself, let alone Metaboli in any trouble with Ubisoft by doing so.

The following file is what you will need to copy over if you can get it downloaded on any O/S. Farcry2\Data_Win32\worlds\worlds.dat
When its not downloading properly the file shows as Farcry2\Data_Win32\worlds\worlds.dat_ and is 0kb in size.

So if you have the failed one on Vista and get it working on XP, just copy the file from the XP install over the Vista install and it will work fine. Thats how I had it working on Vista64 recently.

Is there any word yet on the repackaging of this game so it will work on Vista 64? Used to download fine on Metaboli when it was 32 bit, and I was really looking forward to playing again.

From A very hopeful gamer.

Failed to D/L properly on two XP machines as well so I do call it the day, and hope Metaboli will repack the game someday in the future. All prereqs has been installed, and also the .NET workaround has been tested on all three machines. Will try again whenever I get Windows 7 in/house or a gold version has been released.
