So far every 64-bit game I've tried has worked beautifully on Win7, so I doubt that's the problem for me. Probably a 64-bit problem as you said/seems to be suggested. I'll try downloading it again.
Edit: Just as someone said before, the download cut off at around 500-600mb for some random reason.

Re: Far Cry 2 - Failed to load world The thing is this game worked fine before.. making me think some microsoft update has made it problematic likely .NET 3.5 but I dont wanna try disabling that again, last time I had to reformat just to log back into windows.

Is that 64-bit by any chance, or 32-bit.

i have installed a 64 on another partition, with only the basic drivers (nothing recent), but download still cuts out at about 550mb on firefox (latest version) and 800mb in the download directory. a directx update dialogue appears and the game appears to be ready to play.

For me just the failed to load world (I think), it seems to download OK...although it does download the 2.6gb very quickly when I have re-downloaded it so can't be sure.

If its 791mb then your having the exact same issue, in which case I wouldnt mind another favour, check in add/remove programs and see which versions of Microsoft .NET framework are installed. This will just help me identify/rule out that as the problem.
