I've just downloaded 5 games, only two of which work. All the others crash with .exe stopped working error. I have the latest drivers for my GPU (2 x 6950 in crossfire) and it looks as though my dx9 is correct (at least in the sytem 32 folder). I have also downloaded direct x 9 off the game page but don't know where to extract it to (game folder or system folder). I'm running Win7 64bit. If I make a log, it comes up with ntdll.dll error, but this file is not corrupted or missing as far as I can tell. The working games are Sid Meyer's Railroads and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. Non-working games are Unstoppable Gorg (boots to menu screen for around 2 secs before crashing) Pirates (crashes after intro and splash screen) and Freelancer (crashes before any screen). Any help is much appreciated. I've tried turning UAC off and different compatibility modes too.

As far as direct x is concerned you can extract it to where you wish.I usually just make a folder on my hard drive labelled installing.Then anything like direct x that needs extracting before installing makes them easy to find.Once dx has been extracted navigate to where you chose to extract it to and run the set up exe to install dx.

Updating dx may very well solve the issue's you have so i won't offer any other advice until we know if the issue persists after updating dx.

Thanks for your reply. I missed the dx install exe after extraction and thought it was just a load of compressed files - doh! Unfortunately this has not fixed the problem at all. Not quite sure what to do now.

Ok im using win 7 64 bit with the latest drivers for my system and Unstoppable Gorg works fine for me.Im using nvidia video cards though.

I have not tried the other 2 games for a long time.I never managed to get free lancer working on my vista 32 comp.

I suppose the next step would be to ensure you are using the latest drivers for your system.(Video card, Sound card and motherboard drivers)

Where did you install direct x from?

Generally if a game does not launch for me the first thing i will do is install direct x from the games own page.The reason for this is because some games need older files that are no longer distributed by microsoft.It therefore might pay to do this just in case it is as simple as a missing dx file.

Check your security software to ensure it is not picking the games up as flase positives and blocking them from running.I can't give you specific instructions on how to do this as i don't know what security software you are using.

You could try checking the freelancer forums to see if there is an answer to your issue for freelancer.

If none of that helps do you get any error messages when the games fails to launch?

Do you get a windows error log logged with more specific info.To check goto start then right click computer and choose manage.In the window that loads expand event viewer,winodws logs and choose application.Providing you have tried to launch the game right before starting this process the error generated should be the 1 right at the top of the list. double click the error.choose the details tab of the window that loads.expand both system and event data then copy and paste the details here please.

I've also tried disabling Kaspersky Pure but still get a crash. Getting pretty stuck now unless there is some Kaspersy setting I'm missing, although I'vre made teh Yummy player trusted, and the gorg.exe.

Hi blind sorry i have not replied before but have had a busy weekend with little to no spare time.

Can you add both system and event data from the error please as it gives an error code that might help.To do so when looking at the error click details then click the pluses so you expand the details for system and event before copying and pasting all of it please.

Does your kaspersky block this then? Does it give you a warning when launching the game or does a game show up in the quarantine section of kaspersky?

Dont use Kaspersky myself so can't offer you too much info regarding using it.If it is blocking the games i should be able to point you in the right direction of what to do though.Check the things i have asekd you to so we can see if it is the security suite blocking it.

I was getting a threat warning from Kaspersky (Keylogger) but this happens with other games - not on Metaboli - with no problems running the game. I have however set gorg as a trusted app and this no longer appears. However, I still get the error. Here is the new log, with the system data

It would appear to me that kaspersky is still blocking this game.

sbhook.dll is a file related to kaspersky.I think this file is linked to the kaspersky virtual keyboard.

I did look to see if i could find a possible way round this but have been unable to find one.From what i have read on the kaspersky forums the virtual keyboard can't be disabled within the Kaspersky pure settings.It is also not possible to unistal the virtual keyboard from pure either from what i have read.

If you wanted to be sure it was Kaspersky that was the cause you could try uninstalling it and try launching the game.However this is not something i advise doing myself as it would mean being connected to the net with no security software and could leave you open to an infection.

I don't use kspersky myself so am not able to offer you a great deal of advice regarding this issue.Maybe another member here that has a little more experiecnce with kaspersky can offer you a little more advice.

You could try contacting kaspersky support to see if they are able to offer any constructive help or advice on how to proceed.

Thanks, you've done a lot. I had no idea what any of the error messages were and you've at least stopped me cancelling my Metaboli sub out of frustration! I'll keep looking for a way to disable the Kaspersky keyboard. i'll post again if I can find the solution.
