Document 12. Disable data execution prevention (DEP) [under construction]

The Data Execution Prevention, otherwise known as DEP, is a security feature of Windows XP SP2, Vista and Seven that prevents program code from being run in certain regions of memory that are for storage.

This helps to prevent all kinds of attacks and exploits.

However, DEP can cause issues with third-party programs not written properly for Windows.

You can turn off Data Execution Prevention for a particular program by following the steps below.

Note that you can turn off DEP globally for the entire system, but it’s not recommended as it makes your computer less secure.

Vista:

1. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. Then click on the Advanced tab and then Settings under Performance.

turn off dep

2. Now click on the Data Execution Prevention tab and you’ll see two buttons:

disable data execution prevention

3. Click on Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

disable DEP

4. Click the Add button and browse to the location of the executable for the program you want to remove from DEP protection.

After you do this, you should reboot your machine once in order for the changes to take place.

Seven:

Right click on the Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties.

Here click the Advanced system settings link in the left panel, as highlighted below:

The System Properties window opens now. Here click the Settings… button under Performance section under Advanced tab

Select Data Execution Prevention tab and then click on the dot Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select: and click Add button

Now select the Executable files that you want to add and click Open button

The .exe files you need to add are:

c:\users\XXXXXX (User Name)\local\yummy\games\GameLauncher.exe

c:\users\XXXXXX (User Name)\local\yummy\games\GPlayer.exe

c:\users\XXXXXX (User Name)\local\yummy\games\GPlrLanc.exe

c:\users\XXXXXX (User Name)\local\yummy\games\YProxAut.exe

c:\users\XXXXXX (User Name)\local\yummy\games\

Finally click Apply and then OK button in the Performance options window.
