This is normally due to your processor not being powerful enough or your graphics card not being powerful enough (or not being correctly setup) or your machine having
insufficient RAM. You should check the game page on our site to see if your machine meets the minimum system requirements for that game.
Here is a list of solutions:
1 - Start by relieving the power required by the graphics card in the game's graphics options, drop the resolution down (we recommend using 800x600) then start lowering the extra bobs and whistles (shadows, special effects, ambient light etc.) to find the optimum level for your machine. We advise that you refer to the game's manual to see more on the subject.
2 - If too many programs are running in the background the game may run much slower. Look at our articles on optimizing your system (Closing the background
programs, starting Windows in 'lite'mode) to improve performance.
3 - You could also check the configuration of your graphics card for the best in game graphics, by deactivating things like anti-aliasing or the V-Sync. Have a look at our guides to optimization of Nvidia and ATI graphics card:
