/5What Metaboli thinks
Supreme Commander basically remade what everyone thought of RTS games; it's war, and war on such a huge, massive, immense scale. The spiritual successor to the classic Total Annihilation, Sup Com has battlefields that get as big as 40 by 40 kilometres and just image the kinds of battles you can have in that space when you can have thousands upon thousands of units blowing things up in that space.
And the Forged Alliance Expansion pack just adds to this huge scale. Fist up on the additions is the new race: the Seraphim. Though there are no single player missions for these alien gods of the Aeons, Skirmish and Multiplayer will let you take these formidable war machines into action.
Next up we've got new singleplayer missions, playable as any of the races from the original Supreme Commander, so you can take the race that you liked best (Cybrans 4eva!!). These new missions don't build up like in the original game, slowly drip feeding units and strengths into your arsenal. Here you've got almost everything from the end game missions of Sup Com right from the get go. Which means that you're in for some huge battlegrounds and big missions where each take upwards of 90 minutes to complete.
Of course there are new units for each of the original races too, and these are given to you as you progress through the missions.
And by far the most impressive of the improvements is the graphics. Forged Alliance has improved the unit and terrain graphics of the original game, entirely optional, this addition means that those super-beat PCs out there can really show what they've got in their guts. And for everyone there's a new, far improved interface for you to wage war with, and that makes more difference than you'd think.
More than just a simple expansion, Forged Alliance included in this version of Supreme Commander Gold just makes the biggest war game that has ever existed even bigger, in every way.
