Prisoner of War is a stealth infiltration game on it's head; you'll need to ex-filtrate from the POW camps around Germany, using your stealth and reconnaissance techniques to outsmart the guards, without killing any of them. Yes, Prisoner is one of the few WWII games in existence where you don't kill nazis. Your Steve-McQueen-alike character is just trying to get out of dodge as soon as.
Your character will be sent to various different camps around Germany, including the Infamous Colditz Castle, the most well guarded of all POW camps in all of Germany. After quickly deciding that you need to escape you'll need to throw your lot in with convicts from around the world, all lovingly created with accents to match (with the occasional stereotypical comic accent). With your Escape Committee created you'll need to do everything in your power to escape; stealing tools from the guards, bribing the guards and fellow prisoners for distractions, painting your face in boot-black...
You'll be forced to follow the normal routine of the POW camp, failing to show up at certain activities will alarm the guards and put you a few steps back on the road to freedom.
And, of course, if you're seen getting too close to the fences or you're somewhere you shouldn't be (the nurse's bedroom for example) then the guards will get suspicious and you'll be treated to a complementary stay in the cells or a hospital bed (depending on whether you decide to get shot or not).
With great situation dependant music, a well thought out contextual control system, and voice acting that is well done and a bit comic at times, Prisoner is a game that certainly requires a look, especially as it scored so highly in all the magazines when it was released.
Prisoner of War has a slight return to desktop bug with Windows XP Style desktop set up. To prevent this from happening you should change the Windows display style to 'classic' in Control Panel>Display Properties>Appearance then switch the 'Windows and Buttons' settings to 'Windows Classic Style'.
If you still experience problems reduce your Desktop resolution below the resolution of the game.
