Mafia is set in a time where everyone wore hats and where jazz was as cool as music could get. You will be tasked to take on the role of a getaway driver, as you have become indebted to the Salieri crime family. You will take on more and more tasks as you rise through the ranks of the Salieri 'family', which is currently engaged in a no-holds-barred competition with the Morello family, led by the sharply-dressed Don Morello. Competition is harsh, and you'll be driving around to the sound of Thompson 1928 submachine guns in no time!

You will also be able to explore a huge town (with its sprawling suburb) that resembles every prohibition-era gangster movie environment you've ever seen or dreamt of. Alas, as death and violence takes its toll, you will eventually become disillusioned by your new way of life, and you'll arrange to meet a detective (with a heavy Irish accent) in order to tell him your story, and be given witness-protection in exchange. You will also be a major snitch as you'll help him stop the entire Salieri crime family operations.

In Mafia, you'll be able to drive a total of 51 classic cars based on real-life counterparts, in addition to another 19 bonus vehicles (including five classic racing models) available for unlocking in a new mode upon completion of the game's storyline. The good thing is, you won't actually be able to pick whichever car at the start of the game, and you'll only start out with 1920's cars, getting bigger and better cars as you make your way through the game (good luck in getting that Bolt V8 Fordor). Oh and by the way, you'll need to learn how to steal them, no 'hop in and be on your way' nonsense.
