George Stobbart (or Sir George) is back and after his escapades in Broken Sword 3, he's been blacklisted for virtually every job and finds himself in the only one left that he's able to do: legal aide in a bail bond company in the rough end of town. But all is about to change when a tall blonde bombshell comes into his life with an ancient manuscript and the mafia on her tail. An ancient manuscript, some strange religious orders, a voyage around the world and a biblical super-weapon - it's all classic Broken Sword and an adventure than really pulls you into the videogame.
A recreation of the classic PC point-&-click style, Broken Sword - the Angel of Death hits all the right notes: deep, fun characters, decent dialogue with some fun light comedy, some simple logical puzzles and some devilishly hard ones. Charles Cecil and THQ have created an adventure gamer's heaven.
This time around Broken Sword is in full 3D. The new Emersion Engine makes for a deep world, some pretty character models and nice facial expressions on the characters. Though you'll probably be studying Anna-Maria's curves more than the mafioso's expressions. But it all adds atmosphere to this already top level adventure game.
The voice work in Angel of Death has to be some of the best ever seen in an adventure game, with stereotypical accents and some nice little quips.
Once you start to play you'll discover puzzles where you'll need to think like George to solve, and you'll have to be sly with the other characters to get what you need (it seems that blondes can be useful after all). Broken Sword - the Angel of Death is the perfect introduction to the genre for beginners yet can get taxing enough for adventure game veterans to love.
